Uzbekistan is industrially-agrarian republic. The basic industries are: light, food, chemical, machine-building, colour, ferrous metallurgy, fuel, petrochemical. In structure of fuel and energy balance natural gas prevails. The electric power industry is presented by heat power plant, working on natural gas and a corner, and HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION. On structure of economy Uzbekistan is raw-material producing republic. In agriculture it is taken two thirds of its able-bodied population. Relative density of the workers taken in the industry makes only 20,1 percent from the general number of taken. In an inner-union division of labour Uzbekistan gave in the eightieth years of 35% of vegetables, 60% melons and gourds, 16% of vegetable oil, and also was leader supplier of cotton (61,4%). From industries it is significant to note first of all mining (gold, uranium, etc.). The most important role for a national economy is played with extraction of gold, uranium, copper, molybdenum, tungsten, lead, zinc, silver. Gold mining is one of perspective sites of the Uzbek economy from the point of view of foreign investments. From January, 19 till January, 23rd, 1993 in Uzbekistan the delegation of the European bank of reconstruction and development which has visited Zaravshan where on a place has familiarized with offers on creation of joint venture on extraction of gold worked. The structure of export of republic is: approximately 80 percent the cotton fibre makes, 7–8 percent — fabrics, the clothes, footwear, the rest is account on mineral fertilizers, gas, machines and the equipment. In import of Uzbekistan leading place is taken with energy carriers, a wood, production of mechanical engineering, and the industrial goods. For example, the republic satisfies internal needs for oil due to the stocks less than for 20 percent. Except for that Uzbekistan imports 80% of grain consumed in republic, 55% of meat and oils, and 100% of sugar. |
