The state is in Central Asia. In the north and the west borders on Kazakhstan, in the east — on Kyrgyzstan, in a southeast — on Tajikistan, in the south — on Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The structure of Uzbekistan includes the Karakalpak autonomous republic. From VIII century B.C. in territory of modern Uzbekistan there were the most ancient states: Bactria, Khoresm, Parfija, Sogd. In IV century B.C. the region was a part of Alexander the Great’s empire. In VIII century A.D. the territory has been won by Arabian caliphate. In ÕIII century the country was a part of the Chingishan’s Mongolian empire, and in XIV century — the Mongolian empire of Tamerlan. In XVI century have arisen Bukhara and Khivan khanates. In XVIII century has arisen Kokandsk khanate. In 60-70s of XIX century the part of territory of modern Uzbekistan was a part of Russian empire, and Bukhara and Khivan khanates were in vassal dependence on Russia. After revolution of 1917 in Uzbekistan long time existed the movement struggled for independence of Russia. In 1924 it has been toed Uzbek SSR, included territories of Bukhara and Khivan National Soviet Republics and Turkestani Independent Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1936 into structure of Uzbek SSR has entered Karakalpak ÀSSR. On August, 29th, 1991 Uzbekistan has proclaimed independence, actually the country became the independent state on December, 26th, 1991. Uzbekistan is a member of the United Nations, IMF, the OATS, and the CIS. State system is: the head of the state and executive authority — the President. The legislature is two-chamber parliament Oly Mazhlis. |
